first contact

We all have experienced the impact of a first impression. They have a lasting effect on us.  Each person who enters the doors of our church for the first time will have their own first impression.  How do we communicate our excitement and enthusiasm for their presence in a church as large as this one?  We organize for it.

Our Greeters at the doors, our greeters who hand out more…the GCR Magazine, those who serve at the Information Centers, and the First Contact volunteers all play a big part in welcoming our guests.  All that is required is a sincere smile, a warm greeting, and a willingness to assist guests if they have questions.  We call this ministry First Impressions.

/files/Images/more/info booth.jpgThe Information Center requires staffing for 2 Information Centers, located in the west and south foyers.  Volunteers provide information to visitors and members about GCR including classroom locations, ministry opportunities and special events. The volunteers serve once a month on Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights.

First Contact is made up of 4 teams of volunteers.  /files/Images/more/epps.jpgEach team serves once a month.  They meet at 1:30PM on Sunday afternoons to make phone calls to visitors who filled out an attendance card during Sunday morning worship services. The individuals that are currently filling these positions are Scott McGraw, Roger Epps and Walter King.

Greeters -“Organized Friendliness.”  That, in a nutshell, sums up what greeting is all about.  The Greeters consist of teams of people who are positioned in each lobby to welcome people, warmly greet our guests, and hand out the More Magazine.  Each team serves once a month.

Another ministry that reaches out to guests and those who are considering membership, is GCR 101.  Tim Baugh, Jill Bracken and Roger E/files/Images/more/GCR 101 Cover.jpgpps host this class on the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month during Bible classes, in the Conference Room.  Tim Baugh leads the class and informs those who attend what the purpose of Golf Course Road Church of Christ is, how it is different and similar to a typical Church of Christ, and how to move into the life of the church; including, spiritual growth, small groups and ministry.  It is also a good opportunity to meet other members and those who are considering membership and there is a question and answer session at the end of each class period.

Please be in prayer about GCR’s first impression on our guests.  If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please contact Tim Baugh or Jill Bracken in the church office.
