Power Praise
by Layne Coco
“The
Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps
me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my
song I praise Him.” Psalm
28:7
You’ve seen the shirts, you’ve heard the plug, the kids
are all talking about it, so what is it?
Power Praise is a high-energy praise and worship time for kindergarten
through 6th grade kids. They sing,
shout, dance, and learn. Each Power
Praise is jammed packed with new songs, life applications, Bible games, and fun!
Power Praise was born one late night, when a concept came
to me. It was a combination of ideas
from a children’s ministry conference I attended and many conversations with Anne-Marie
Rogers and other friends involved in our children’s ministry. My desire for Power Praise is to show kids
that loving and worshipping God can be fun, meaningful, and relevant to their
everyday lives.

Power Praise kicked off in mid July on Thursday nights and ran for 4 weeks. Our first night there were 35 kids. Our numbers grew from 35 to 60 by the 3rd week. The response was so overwhelming, that we have now implemented Power Praise on the first Wednesday of each month and consistently have had at least 60 GCR kids and visitors.
Why
do we need Power Praise? Our children are easily influenced, whether
positive or negative, by many different means such as television, music,
school, friends, etc. We wanted to influence
GCR kids in a positive way through Christian music and good, clean fun. It’s been thrilling for parents to hear their
children singing praise and worship songs in the backyard, shower, or around
the house, rather than the more negative alternatives. Power Praise songs are reaching the hearts
and minds of our young children and they are living out the words in their daily
lives. Come join us for the next Power
Praise Wednesday, October 7, and see what all the excitement is about!
