MISSIONS IN NORTHEAST INDIA
WHO
IS DIMBESWAR BURMAN?
Dimbeswar Burman is from Guwahati, Assam, North East India. He
is 38 years old, and is currently single, although he is engaged to be married
later this year. Dimbeswar came to Christ through World Bible School and
World Wide Bible Study courses with Gary Tate, and has been a Christian for 18
years. After he became a Christian, Dimbeswar immediately began actively
sharing his faith in Christ. He now uses World Bible School in both
English and Assamese.
Dimbeswar was the first of seven Indian workers now supported fully by the GCR Missions Ministry for evangelism in North East India. He and his co-workers spend much time in prayer, at times with a period of fasting. In visiting with non-Christians they minister through prayer and teaching.
LITTLE FLOWER
SCHOOL
In 1997, Dimbeswar founded the Little Flower School, an accredited
English Medium School, with zero investment, but a lot of community
cooperation. Little Flower currently has an enrollment over 260, with 25
part- and full-time workers. Since the school’s beginning, 15 of its
workers have accepted Christ. The students are from Hindu and Muslim
backgrounds.
In its 12 year existence, Little Flower School has been very instrumental in sharing and spreading the Gospel among the Hindus and Muslims. Dimbeswar currently serves as President of Little Flower, and has taught there for all 12 years of the school’s existence.
A new building was completed in 2006 with funds provided by several individuals from Golf Course Road. The addition of this building increased the student population by 50%.
Everyone at Little Flower expects it to be a transforming tool, both educationally and spiritually. There are plans being made to open a school of Biblical Studies for those who would like to grow their knowledge of the Bible and put that to use in their home communities.
India is home to 17 percent of all the people in the world, and is a nation of multi-ethnic and multicultural groups. It is also home to most of the leading religions of the world, but less than four percent of India’s population has accepted Christ. To evangelize India as whole is to evangelize a large part of the world.
God continues to open the door for Christ and the work in the North Eastern state of Assam is one example of it. Sharing the gospel has been more active as the Indian society becomes free from traditional bondage. The people who were seeking God over the years are now realizing the oneness of God. They also recognize that Christ is the only way to God.
We respond to this trend, and reach out to the masses of people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please pray for large scale evangelism and promotion of Christian education throughout the nation.
