Frequently Asked Questions for Mexico Mission Trip

How much does the trip cost? $275 per person, this covers: all transportation, food, lodging. This does not cover money for snacks or souvenirs.

Do we need any shots? no shots are required, but because we are working on a construction site we recommend a Tetanus shot.

What paper work do I need to turn in? A Medical Release Form that is notorized, Behavioral Form signed by Parent and Teen, Entry to Mexico Parent Permission Form notorized and signed by both parents (unless you have single parent custody of your child).

Do I need a passport?  Yes. You can get a passport at the post office by the airport. It will take about 8 weeks to get it (the closer you get to Summer, the longer it will take to get it). Here is a website you can go to for more information on how to get a passport:  http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

Will my passport be safe with you? We keep all passports in a safe and return it to you at the end of the trip.

Can I reach of my teen while they are in Mexico? We will have contact information for trip leaders and will give updates to the church office regularly.

Here is the packing List for Mexico:

Hola!  I know you are all excited about leaving for Mexico.  Here is a list of the things that you will need to bring.  These are things we recommend for a pleasant stay in Mexico.  Please keep your bags to one suitcase and one backpack for the ride down so we can conserve space in the trailer for all the other tools, food, and things we are taking.  Happy packing!

Stuff

Bible and notebook

Sunscreen (with a high SPF) and perhaps aloe)

Chapstick (with SPF)

Diarrhea Medicine (chewable pepto works best)

Insect repellent

Camera and film

Non-water hand sanitizer

Personal prescriptions (if you are under 16 you will need to give those to our nurse and she will make sure to distribute them as needed).

Re-usable water bottle with name on it.  (a bottle with a screw on lid is a must)

Enough money for 3 fast food meals on our travel days

Clothing

Lightweight cotton clothing is best

Jeans

T-shirts

May want 1 white long sleeve shirt (protection from sun- it really works!!)

HEAVY WORK GLOVES!!!!!!- good thick work gloves, not gardening gloves

Hat and Bandana- very important for protection from sun

Old tennis shoes or work boots to work in, plus another pair of shoes to wear around Mexico at night.

Sunglasses

Bathing suit (if your suit is inappropriate we will ask you to change)

At least one set of nice clothes for evening dinners and after work.

For the girls: I recommend long skirts for the night times since they are cooler

than pants.

A light pair of pants is best—jeans don’t breathe and are too hot for the weather there.

**Please do not bring any expensive jewelry, watches, or credit cards.

Because of the culture and our image as Christians, it is best that we not wear shorts with anything less than a 5-inch inseam. You may bring short pants like capris that come up to a few inches above the ankle.  Also, no tank tops or spaghetti strap shirts.

*There is a “dress code” while on the work site.  It is shoes that cover the whole foot (no sandals or slip on’s), pants (jeans are best), work gloves, and a tee shirt.  No tank tops, mid-drifts or cut off shirts. Thanks for your help.

We will be providing the money for all of your meals, but if you feel like you eat more than the average person you may want to bring extra money.
